The ICPerMed “Best Practice in Personalised Medicine” Award 2018 aims to recognise, encourage, promote and disseminate outstanding examples of best practices in personalised medicine. Individuals who have published scientific papers and/or developed best practice strategies in the field of personalised medicine between January 1st, 2016 and December 31st, 2017, from any of the ICPerMed partner countries, were eligible to apply. The launch of the Award was the 19th of January 2018 and the deadline for proposal submission was the 2nd of March 2018.
The three first awardees have been invited to the Berlin ICPerMed Conference 2018 and were given the opportunity to present their results during a plenary session to stakeholders interested in the area of personalied medicine. In addition, the successful candidates received a non-cash award of € 500 (five hundred) to support the dissemination of the awarded best practice examples. The outcomes of the award, the researchers and best practice examples selected will be presented in an article within the EPMA Journal (journal of predictive, preventive and personalized medicine).

The ICPerMed Award focused on selecting “Best Practices in Personalised Medicine” from one or several of the following areas:
- Scientific papers focused on novel approaches for the implementation of personalised medicine;
- Training programmes for health personnel, increasing the level of awareness on the potential of personalised medicine;
- Examples for interdisciplinary or intersectoral groups of collaboration (governmental and non-governmental organizations, academic management, medical research and health care), for the implementation of personalised medicine, including Ethical, Legal and Social Issues (ELSI) activities.
Proposals were evaluated by seven researchers experienced in the topic, in a one-stage process and supported by the ICPerMed Steering Board. The last step was the final approval by the ICPerMed Executive Committee.
In brief, 18 proposals have been submitted with the involvement of a total of 61 researchers. In terms of country distribution, there were nine proposals from Italy, three from Israel, two from Spain and one from each Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. The topics have been wide-ranging including various categories of diseases and different applications of the lines of research in personalised medicine.
The conference took place on 20-21 November 2018 in Berlin, Germany. The aim of the conference was to present best practice examples in personalised medicine in different formats.The ICPerMed Conference assembled about 300 experts from 32 countries worldwide. Additionaly, over 500 viewers followed the online livestream.
