21 December 2022 - The PERMIT project has developed an interactive online training to facilitate the understanding and implementation of personalised medicine trials. The training is designed to address the needs of researchers from public and private sectors, clinicians, policy makers, regulatory authorities at a national or regional level, students, ethics committee representatives, patient groups, patients and citizens.

25 July 2022 - Pharmacogenomics is the study of how genes affect a person's response to drugs and risk of side effects and enables a personalised choice and dosage of drugs. So far, this knowledge is not routinely applied in patient care. To improve this situation, a “serious game” was developed in the context of the European project U-PGx. It offers a more intuitive and practical training of medical students in recognizing adverse drug effects that may be caused by pharmacogenomics.

22 March 2022 – The preparations for the European Partnership in Personalised Medicine, EP PerMed, are continuing. Last month, a draft proposal for the Partnership was prepared by the drafting group of potential partners and published by the European Commission. Best Practice Example: The Portuguese Familial Hypercholesteremia Study
:
26. November 2021 – The Portuguese FH study investigates patients for gene variants causing this rare inherited lipid metabolism disorder. This genetic analysis allows diagnosis early in childhood and can predict the severity of disease. Preventive treatment can be tailored to the characteristics of each patient, which dramatically reduces the risk for cardiovascular disease while keeping side effects to a minimum.

Best Practice Example: Strimvelis® Gene Therapy

2 June 2021 - The ex-vivo gene therapy Strimvelis® was approved in Europe in 2016 to treat children affected by severe combined immunodeficiency due to adenosine deaminase deficiency (ADA-SCID) who lack a matching bone marrow donor. ADA-SCID is an inherited disorder caused by mutations in the ADA gene and results in a seriously compromised immune system.

27 May 2021 – In follow up of the “guidance document”, seven Information Sheets (download below) were developed by the ICPerMed and ERA PerMed “Preparatory Group”, comprising of four representatives of each initiative. The Information Sheets aim to promote the preparations of the European Partnership for Personalised Medicine (EP PerMed), which has been proposed to be one of the partnerships in Horizon Europe, the 9th framework programme of the European Union.

12 November 2020 – EU citizens have the right to access healthcare in any EU country and to be reimbursed for care abroad by their home country. To realise this right, the appropriate infrastructures and standards should be created. Regional providers of health data, such as (university or regional) hospitals, first line healthcare or genetic centres, collect massive amounts of health data. This creates a large need for interoperable and accessible data.

ICPerMed Vision Paper

25 September 2019 – ICPerMed published a "Vision Paper" on how the use of personalised medicine approaches will promote "next-generation" medicine in 2030. The vision entails that medicine needs to become more firmly centred on the individual’s personal characteristics and at the same time be more effective and have an economic value. 21 November 2018 – The first conference ‘Personalised Medicine in Action’ of the International Consortium for Personalised Medicine (ICPerMed) assembled around 300 experts from 32 countries in Berlin, Germany. Around 500 viewers followed the online livestream of the conference. The conference took place from 20 to 21 November and presented best practice examples for successful implementations of personalised medicine approaches in Europe and beyond.

ERACoSysMed Call 2019

9 November 2018 – The ERACoSysMed consortium has published a pre-announcement of the ERACoSysMed Joint Transnational Call for Proposals 2019. The aim of the call is to fund research projects that validate existing predictive computational models using biomedical data to expand the knowledge about human diseases and their treatment. The call is scheduled to be launched on February 1 2019.

Statement concerning the 1 Million Genomes Declaration

18 May 2018 – On 10 April 2018 13 Member States signed a declaration, initiated by the European Commission, to establish access to 1 Million Genomes in the EU by 2022. ICPerMed has followed with interest the process of developing the declaration. Recognising the great potential of personalised medicine to improve the prevention and diagnosis of disease and the treatment of patients, ICPerMed aims to coordinate and foster research to develop and evaluate personalised medicine approaches.

15 May 2018 – The International Consortium for Personalised Medicine (ICPerMed) has published the results of the first ICPerMed "Best Practice in Personalised Medicine" Award 2018. The three first awardees are invited to the ICPerMed Conference 2018, which takes place on 20-21 November in Berlin, and will be given the opportunity to present their results during a plenary session to stakeholders interested in the area of personalised medicine.
