30 July 2026 – The PROPHET project held its final conference at the Royal Library of Belgium in Brussels on 8 July 2026. The event presented the results of four years of collaborative work and discussed how personalised prevention can be translated into healthcare policy and practice.
PROPHET is the last still-running project of the so-called ICPerMed ‘Family’, a group of European and international initiatives that has supported cooperation, research and the implementation of personalised medicine in Europe and beyond. As PROPHET enters its final phase, its conclusion also marks the end of this important cycle of ICPerMed Family projects.
Bringing together representatives of the multidisciplinary PROPHET consortium alongside policymakers, researchers, healthcare professionals, patient and citizen organisations, and representatives of the European Commission, the WHO and national health ministries, the conference reviewed the project’s principal findings and their implications for future health systems.
Over the past four years, PROPHET has developed several strategic documents, including a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda and Roadmap for Personalised Prevention as well as a policy brief on policy priorities for implementing personalised prevention in Europe. These strategic documents aim to support the development and implementation of innovative, sustainable and effective approaches to preventing common chronic diseases, taking account of biological information as well as environmental, behavioural, socioeconomic and cultural factors.
The conference highlighted critical challenges that need to be addressed to advance personalised prevention and discussions centred on three guiding principles – evidence, empowerment and equity – and emphasised the need to:
- translate scientific evidence into structured clinical practice;
- further develop Health Technology Assessment and Health Impact Assessment approaches;
- establish interoperable data infrastructures;
- address ethical, legal and social considerations;
- integrate personalised prevention into national health strategies; and
- strengthen health literacy and public trust.
PROPHET also presented its Capacity Building Toolbox, which provides accessible resources for policymakers, healthcare professionals, citizens, patients and civil society organisations.
Although PROPHET is coming to an end, its results provide a foundation for further research, policy development and implementation. Its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, Roadmap, appraisal framework, factsheets, conference materials and Capacity Building Toolbox will remain available to support the transition towards more preventive, person-centred and equitable healthcare systems.
